Created by explorer and environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau and his Ocean Futures Society, Ambassadors of the Environment is a unique, groundbreaking program that introduces young travelers to the extraordinary natural wonders of French Polynesia. The program aims to give young participants aged 9-17 direct, hands-on, interactive experience with knowledge of marine and island ecosystems. Young Ambassadors will explore coral reefs, hike rainforest trails and visit marae (ancient Polynesian temples). They'll learn how black pearls and vanilla are cultivated, how volcanic islands become coral atolls, and how to paddle an outrigger canoe.

Depart the pier for the drive by coach to Fare, Huahine's main village. After a leisurely guided stroll around the village, a visit will be made to a vanilla plantation. Depart the pier in Maroe Bay for the brief transfer by mini-van to the Little Farm, or La Petite Ferme, a 25-year-old established ranch in Huahine. The stable is home to 17 horses. The majority of them are Marquesian horses, which are renowned for their robust, hardy and gentle nature. Despite their winter coat and the area's warm temperatures, they are perfectly adapted to the South Seas' climate.

Upon arrival at the ranch, you will receive your safety and riding instructions, be introduced to your horse and begin your ride towards Motu Maeva. From here, you will take in magnificent views of the idyllic islands of Raiatea, Taha'a and Bora Bora.

After returning to the ranch, you will re-board your mini-van for the return drive to the pier.

Please note: This tour is suitable for inexperienced as well as advanced riders; the pace of the ride will be adapted to the least experienced riders. The ride will last for approximately 1.5 hours. Riders will be matched to their horse based on their own body weight and the temperament of the horse. For the horse's well-being, each rider must weigh less than 200 pounds. Discover the majestic beauty of both Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti during this off-road adventure through the twin islands.

Depart the pier by off-road vehicle for the drive to Huahine Nui. After crossing the bridge linking the two islands, you will ascend the island's steepest road for spectacular panoramic views over Maroe Bay and the ship. Upon arrival in the village of Faie, a stop will be made to feed the blue-eyed eels that live in the stream running through the village. Next, you will continue on to Maeva for a visit to the island's most important marae, Potee Marae. You will then be driven along Lak Fauna Nui before arriving in Fare, the island's largest town. During your visit, some free time will be made available for you to explore the area and browse the shops.

Leaving Fare, you will complete the circular drive around Huahine Nui and cross the bridge to Huahine Iti a second time. Along the way, a photo stop will be made in Parea, home of the island's finest beaches. You will then depart the main road between Parea and Tefarerii for a drive through the small settlements and plantation areas. Following your visit, you will rejoin the island's main road for the return drive to the pier. En route, you will take in splendid views over the colorful bays.

Please note: Although the off-road vehicle will remain on the main road for most of the drive, this tour also involves travel over non-paved roads with steep ascents and descents. Depart the pier for the scenic and relaxing ride to Huahine's crystal-clear lagoon. Upon arrival, you will receive brief safety and snorkeling instructions before entering the water abundant with fish, coral and marine life. After snorkeling, you will view a coconut demonstration outlining its many uses. You will then have an opportunity to sample the coconut, which will be served with fresh fruits and refreshments.

At the conclusion of your tour, you will be transferred back to the pier.

Depart from the Wharf and head towards the coastal village of Nikaupara. Stop briefly at Vainamu, a fresh water pond once used as a gathering place by the young people of the island. Continue along to the inland village of Tautu stopping at the ancient temple grounds of Are Mango and the Poatu o Rae - the ancient throne of Rae. Rae was reputed to be the strongest man on Aitutaki. Your guide will tell of his legends.

After embarking the dive boat, your certified diving instructor will explain your safety and diving instructions, and help you put on your helmet. Plastic shoes, wetsuits, masks and snorkels will also available, as there will be time for snorkeling while the other guests take their underwater walk.

At the black pearl farm, you will learn all about the most beautiful jewel of French Polynesia: the magnificent black pearl. Next, you will continue on to a small motu for an opportunity to snorkel in its crystal-clear water. This motu is located close to a pass where experienced snorkelers can observe the drop off of the reef. Depart the pier in an off-road vehicle for the journey inside the volcanic crater from which Moorea was created. En route, you will discover the heart of a huge pineapple plantation inside the island's deepest valley of the island. Moorea, Polynesia's Green Garden, is renowned for its Agricultural School, which receives children from all the outer islands. A stop will be made here to sample some homemade jam. Ice cream and local fruit juices will also be available for purchase. Your guide will then drive you across a large plantation filled with vanilla, bananas, grapefruits and oranges, and acquaint you with the island's diverse flora and fauna.

Next, you will continue to an open-air temple, or marae. Beach break & Snorkel

Duration: 3 hours - Depart the pier by a motorized boat for a brief ride to one of the Motus (small islet) just off the coast of mainland Moorea. Depart the pier for a scenic and relaxing drive around Moorea. The distance around this idyllic island is approximately 38 miles, or 62 kilometers, and offers many spectacular sites and photo opportunities. You will ride past pineapple fields and visit an ancient Tahitian stone temple, or marae, en route to Belvedere. You will also take in magnificent views of Cook's Bay, Opunohu Bay and Mt. Rotui. During the ride, your guide will provide you with commentary about the daily lives of the Polynesian island residents.

Next, your drive will continue on through the village of Papetoai and past the nearby tombs of the first missionaries. Then you will have a 30 minute, shopping and restroom stop near the Black Pearl Gem Company shop or Tahia Collins shop, your coach will return to the pier via the other side of the island. Along the way, you will pass through the districts of Haapiti and Afareitu, then make a photo stop at the Ia Ora lookout point before arriving at the pier.

Next, you will continue on to a gorgeous sandy islet surrounded by transparent turquoise waters that are shallow enough to walk comfortably in the sea. Upon arrival, you will have a rare opportunity to feed the awaiting rays; they will gracefully glide around you in exchange for a piece of fish.

Your tour will conclude with a stop at another uninhabited islet nearby. Here, you will be served refreshments, and have an opportunity to explore the beach and swim. Depart the pier aboard a Zodiac boat for the ride to the ledges of a coral reef. Similar to fingers on a hand, these narrow points of coral were formed by thousands of years of surging water and extend from the reef for more than 200 feet. The fingers start at a depth of 30 feet, and extend to 120 feet or more. The sides and top of each extension are rich in hard coral of various species. Upon arrival, your guide will outfit you with your equipment, provide you with your safety and diving instructions, then lead you into the crystal-clear waters.

Sharks, Javanese green moray eels and multicolored tropical fish abound inside this reef, and are constantly moving about in search of food. However, your dive will take place outside of the reef, where the clearest water and some of Polynesia's finest coral formations can be found. The maximum depth of your dive will not exceed 50 feet, or 15 meters.

Depart the pier for the brief transfer to the starting point of your hiking tour. Upon arrival, you will proceed through the trails of the Sister Island. Along the way, a stop will be made at the famous Belvedere Lookout for panoramic views and photo opportunities over Cook's and Opunohu Bays. Next, you will continue on to the ridge separating the 2,887-foot-tall Mouaroa from the 3,960-foot-tall Tohivea. This brisk mountain walk will provide you with an intimate look at Tahiti's natural beauty, and beautiful views over Vaianae-Haapiti and Mt. Rotui. During your hike, you will learn about the island's flora and fauna, and be served some freshly-picked fruit.

Please note: This tour involves a very strenuous and lengthy 3.5-mile hike over partly-shaded and uneven terrain, uphill and downhill trail walking/hiking with an elevation gain of 1,171 feet. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking shoes or hiking boots, wear insect repellent, a hat and sunglasses, and bring a change of socks and bottle of water from the ship.

A fun, informative and interactive tour to a relatively little visited side of Tahiti, an inland valley. Join your onboard lecturer archaeologist Mark Eddowes on this unique cultural tour of the upland rain forest of Opunohu valley. Mark has worked clearing, mapping, excavating and restoring archaeological sites in this valley since the 1980's. He works particularly on the life of the ancient Tahitians in this natural environment studying their ancient habitation sites, agricultural terrace complexes, stone tool workshops and ancient temples or marae. The recognized expert on the marae of the Society Islands Mark will share with you his research results into the history of the temples, the rituals practiced there and the warrior chiefs associated with them. You will also learn about the uses in ancient times of the flora and tree species of the island for canoe manufacture, plant medicinal uses and the sculpture of ti'I (tiki figures) and traditional house manufacture. You will visit on the tour the landing site of Captain James Cook in 1777, the Opunohu agricultural school and Belvedere lookout point before following shady trails within the forest between the ancient archaeological sites. Your transport will be on the traditional "Le truck" providing vista views and spectacular scenery along the way.

Please note: The forest trails are all downhill but can be slick after rain and tree roots sometimes cross the trails. Insect repellent is provided. A small bottle of water is recommended for the trek. Bamboo staffs are provided to give stability if needed. A second Tahitian guide is always at the back of the line for any additional aid during the trek. Bring some money as purchases (organic vanilla, native jam preserves, and real vanilla ice cream!) can be bought at the agricultural school. People with major knee, back/neck problems should not take the tour. It is an easy to medium trek for people in moderate to good health. Total length of the tour 4 hours with 2 of walking the 3 miles through the forest. On Sundays the Agricultural School is closed.

Along the way, a stop will be made at Motu Ono for an opportunity to feed the elegant and graceful rays as they swim around you in the shallow water. Fresh fruit and beverages will then be served on the motu.

Following your visit, you will be transferred to the wave runner center, then back to the pier.
