Jean-Michel Cousteau Oceanographer & Environmentalist: July 11; November 20; December 1, 2012; February 2; June 26; September 23; November 2, 2013
World-famous oceanographer and environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau will join several sailings in 2012 and 2013 (Mr. Cousteau will join the second week only of the December 1, 2012, sailing.) American lyric soprano Kristin Clayton (top right) created a sensation when she replaced Renee Fleming in the world premiere of Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s At the Statue of Venus for the grand opening of Denver’s new Caulkins Opera House. Bass-baritone Bojan Knezevic has received critical acclaim for his operatic portrayals in opera houses throughout the United States and Europe. Bruce Mate, Marine Biologist: September 1, 2012 Australs & Society Islands Sailing
A Ph.D. in marine biology and post-doctoral Fellow in environmental health sciences, Bruce Mate has conducted research on marine mammals since 1967. He is also the co-founder of the state of Oregon’s Whale Watching Spoken Here program, and he has been instrumental in the development of tracking technology for manatees and several species of dolphins and whales. Dr. Mate will join our September 1, 2012, sailing to the Australs & Society Islands, during which his expertise will enrich our visit to a special sanctuary for humpback whales.
