This fascinating half day excursion provides an excellent opportunity to discover Bali's intriguing world of Gods and temples, along with its traditional arts and crafts.
Traveling along a scenic route from the pier, you will first make your way to a popular batik workshop. This lovely Balinese tradition has been passed down for generations and at the workshop you will have an opportunity to admire the distinctive artistry and technique that goes into producing the famous batik cloth. There will be time afforded here to shop for a souvenir to take home.
Then proceed to the magnificent Royal Temple, found in the town of Mengwi which was once the center of a powerful kingdom. A spectacular landmark of historic architecture built in the 17th century, Pura Taman Ayun served as the family temple of the Mengwi dynasty, whose kingdom survived until the late 1800s. This wonderful temple complex includes a wide moat, exquisite wooden shrines and beautifully carved gates, making it one of the area's main attractions.
Re-joining your coach, it's a leisurely drive to your final stop Tanah Lot, Bali's most photographed temple. Also referred to as the Sunset Temple, the impressive black lava towers of this sacred 16th century temple are dramatically situated on a rocky outcrop that extends 656 feet offshore. Surrounded by pristine aqua waters and the white surf that crashes against the rocks, it is easy to see why this location has become a favorite with photographers.

This is a quick introduction to Ubud, a quiet cultural centre in Bali, famous for its handicraft and surrounded by rich and lush vegetation.
The bus will drop you off at Puri Lukisan Museum, it has a collection of early works from Ubud and the surrounding villages. These include examples of classical wayang-style paintings (art influenced by shadow puppetry), fine ink drawings by I Gusti Nyoman Lempad and paintings by Pita Maha artists. Notice the level of detail in Lempad’s The Dream of Dharmawangsa. Guest can visit the museum independently, use the washroom or simply proceed and wander around Ubud right away.
From Puri Lukisan you will walking to Ubud Market. Ubud’s popularity as an art village is famous internationally, so take your time to explore the artist’s shops and some free time is included, so test your bargaining skill in the market. Enjoy a short trek on Komodo Island. Komodo is one of the 17,508 islands that make up the Republic of Indonesia. The highlight of this trip is seeing the Komodo Dragons. These relatives of the dinosaurs are the biggest reptiles on earth, reaching lengths of over 10 feet (3 meters) and weights of over 275 lbs. (125kg).
The earliest stories of a dragon existing in the region circulated widely and attracted considerable attention. No one visited the island to check the story until official interest was sparked in the early 1910’s by stories from Dutch sailors based in Flores about a mysterious creature allegedly described as a “dragon” that spat fire. In 1915, the Dutch government placed the dragon on the list of protected species. More recently, Komodo was named to the controversial list of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in November 2011.
From the pier you will walk to the Tamarind Woods ranger’s station. There you will have a short briefing. Then, keep an eye open for these dappled giants as you approach Banuggulung, a former Komodo feeding ground, in the company of an expert guide who will provide further insight into the life of these unique and fascinating creatures.
At the end of your trek, you will be returned to the rangers’ station, where you will have time to browse for souvenirs from local villagers before being transferred back to the ship.
Please note: The number of rangers in the national park and on the island is limited, so for safety and security reasons, all guests wishing to join this excursion are required to book it in advance. In 1915, the Dutch government placed the dragon on the list of protected species. More recently, Komodo was named to the controversial list of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in November 2011.
From the pier you will walk to the Tamarind Woods ranger’s station. There you will have a short briefing. Then, keep an eye open for these dappled giants as you approach Banuggulung, a former Komodo feeding ground, in the company of an expert guide who will provide further insight into the life of these unique and fascinating creatures.
At the end of your trek, you will be returned to the rangers’ station, where you will have time to browse for souvenirs from local villagers before being transferred back to the ship.
Please note: The number of rangers in the national park and on the island is limited, so for safety and security reasons, all guests wishing to join this excursion are required to book it in advance. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, and do not wear or carry any RED items or clothing on Komodo Island. Guests with fresh wounds or who are menstruating are advised to stay onboard the ship. Because the terrain on Komodo is rough and uneven, this tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. Do not attempt to feed the dragons.

Depart to Railaco (Ermera) is one of the Municipalities of Timor Leste, located in the west-central part of the country through Tacitolu Chapel. Its capital is Gleno, which is located 30 km to the southwest of the national capital, Dili. The old city of Ermera, also known as Vila Ermera, lies 58 km from the capital along the same road. The winding road up from Dili to centrally located Ermera municipality is perfect for road touring and mountain biking – it offers expansive views out to Atauro Island. In general, Ermera Municipality is a very rugged country and sparsely populated. It is the Coffee producing heart of Timor-Leste. With steep hills covered in coffee forest, looking towards towering Mt Ramelau in the south often all that can be seen of most towns is their colorful church spires poking out through the trees. Coffee is a shade loving plant which flourishes beneath the large canopied albezia trees. During the harvest season local people can be seen picking the ripe red coffee cherries that are then spread along the sides of the road and anywhere else flat they can find for drying in the hot sunshine. Last stop before driving back to port is visiting Tais Market to see Tais cloth is a form of traditional weaving created by women in Timor Leste and is made by hand or by the process known as “ soru Tais” (using a traditional loom). An essential part of the nation’s cultural heritage and identity, tais weaving are used for ceremonial rituals, for aderment and home décor, personal apparel and are also given to special guest. Weaving of tais is performed solely by women, with techniques passed down orally from generation to generation. In the era of independence, tais artisans have begun specializing in customized weaving, as well as tais like products such as handbags and scarves. The tais is made of cotton rolled with raffia and it is dyed with natural colours.

Depart from port, your first visit will be at Cristo Rei The Christ Statue or Christ the King of Dili is a 88.6 foot (27 m) tall representing also 27th province of Indonesia the statue of Jesus is located atop a globe in Dili, East Timor. This statue was designed by Mochamad Syailillah, who is usually called Bolil. The statue was officially unveiled by Suharto in 1996 as gift from the Indonesian government to the East Timorese people. The statue has been one of the main tourist sites in East Timor. Then continue to Santa Cruz Cemetery and Resistance Museum, the Timor-Leste Museum of the Resistance opened its doors to the community ten years after the national became officially independent in 2002. In it pieces of Timor-Leste war history are resistance documents preserved for future generations and so they do not forget the years of struggle against occupying forces. Women wear the tais feto, a form of strapless dress woven in the save of a tube. A third type known as the selendang, a slender cloth worn around the neck. Although a common language of Motuis is spoken throughout the Papuan coastal villages, their customs and traditions differ to the east and up the western coastlines. This will be experienced by visiting two different villages of Motuan origin. Tatana, a village towards the west not too far from the city is more of a modern village because of its location and because the traditional customs and values are nearly all gone as they have very much adopted to western influence. These are villagers who do not have any land for gardening and building houses as their land has been taken by the government where the city now stands. Their means of survival is fishing and through employment in the city. Barakau is another of the Papuan village, approximately 45 minute drive out of Port Moresby to the east. This is a true traditional style village with some houses on stilts over the water while most are on land. Some years back a tidal wave swept through the village and destroyed most of their house on stilts. Modern materials are used for building houses, however these people still follow and maintain their traditional values, beliefs and practices. These are peaceful group of people who depend on food from the gardens and fish from the sea. They maintain their customs in terms of bride price exchange, village feasts, compensation payments etc. Here you get to witness some true traditional cultural performances, traditional welcome etc.

The city tour departs from the wharf starting with a drive along the Ela Beach road to Koki market where local fruits, vegetables and fresh fish are sold and continue the drive along the Sir Hubert Murray Highway passing Taurama Army Barracks and Boroko shopping centre to Waigani. Here visit the National Parliament House which signifies the modern architecture and traditional design. Continue to the National Museum & Art Gallery where it holds a collection of most scares and unique artwork from around the country, history of early agricultural existence, trading and, hunting methods and trading that portrays the different cultures and traditions of the country. From here drive to the Port Moresby Adventure Park with an insight of the outskirts of Port Moresby. This magnificent garden offers unique display of birds, flora and fauna. The orchids are spectacular which comprises of many different species and most cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The many different species of birds are amazing to see including the Raggiana Bird of Paradise. We return to the ship along the Freeway with a stop at artefact market where one can have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs and artefacts or just witness the different collection of artefacts from right around the country. From here arrive at Burns Peak for excellent view of the Motuan Villages of Hanuabada and Port Moresby CBD and the harbour area. Then drive through Konedobu, the old colonial administration centre and board the ship.

Leaving the pier, heading eastward along the Magi Highway with approximately 30 minutes drive time, you reach Tahira Marina where you will be met and greeted by friendly staff of Loloata Island Resort. You will board a ferry that will take you to Loloata island for tea/coffee and preparing for the snorkeling and hiking. Snorkeling will be at Pig island, 5 minutes by ferry where there is white sandy beach and excelent spot for snorkeling. An hour will be spent snorkeling and proceed back to Loloata. Upon arrival, you will be met and taken on a hike on the islands while the hikers will be taken off for more snorkeling. After an hour, both groups gather back at the Resort for a buffet lunch. On completion of the activities, the ferry transfers you to the Marina where your waiting buses will take you back to the wharf and board the ship.

Depart wharf and taking the freeway, head for MacDomald’s Corner up in the Sogeri Plateau. Drive out of the city climbing to a higher altitude reach Sogeri Plateau and turn off along on dirt road for MacDonald’s corner driving through cattle farm and rubber plantations. After enjoying the cool pleasant temperatures, drive back with a brief photo stop at Rouna falls and head to the Bomana War Cemetery where Allied soldiers and Papua New Guineans who died during the Kokoda campaign. This is a well-kept cemetery with one of the largest WW2 grave yards in the Pacific region. Continue back to the city and visit the WW2 monument that was erected to commemorate the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels who served in the war. Taking the Freeway, head for wharf with a brief stop at Burns Peak for harbour view and return to the wharf.

An hour drive takes you up to Sogeri Plateau where the climate is cool and pleasant. The drive is very scenic with panoramic views. Visit the beautiful Rouna Falls. The Varirata National Park is home to many different species of birds including the Raggiana Bird of Paradise. The hikes at the Park are an interaction with nature where you get to see nature at its best. The hike is through bush trails up and down and over slopes with noiseless creeks beneath. From the park you can witness excellent views towards the east where you will see the Bootless Bay and to the north to the outskirts of city of Port Moresby. To get the full satisfaction of the hike, it is recommended that people come with their binoculars and/or high definition cameras to capture the nature. Enroute to/from Varirata you will see Korowai Tree House, a traditional house built high in the tree tops which used to be accommodation for the Korowai people of the Central Province. Korowais are the inland people of the Central Province who still believe and practice sorcery and witchcraft.
