Experience the diverse culture of Vanuatu during a unique performance by people who hail from Vanuatu's Bank and Torres Islands-smaller, remote islands to the north of Espiritu Santo. Departing from the pier enjoy a scenic ride along the coast before heading into the interior, where you'll arrive at a village inhabited by residents who hail from the Banks and Torres Islands. Here, you'll be greeted by fierce-looking warriors and presented with a refreshing coconut drink. Enjoy a cultural demonstration that includes the preparation of the ceremonial drink kava, dances, and other sacred rites. The highlight of this tour is the mystical water music of the remote island of Gaua, which is home to an active volcano and the largest volcanic lake in the South Pacific. Wearing traditional adornments of crowns and armbands fashioned from flowers and leaves, the women wade into the water up to their waists, then splash and clap their hands to make the percussion-based music, accompanied by singing that originated on their island.
Please note: Comfortable shoes recommended. Please bring a bottle of water from the ship. The itinerary of this tour is subject to changes depending on local customs, holidays, road and weather conditions. Restrooms may be rustic.
