New York, New York – September 17, 2026 – The beauty, culture and people of French Polynesia were celebrated at the premiere of Hidden Tahiti, a new film by multiple Emmy-award winning journalist and television producer Peter Greenberg. Executives from Paul Gauguin Cruises, Tahiti Tourisme, Air Tahiti Nui and The Brando hosted the screening at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles on September 15, bringing together travel advisors, media and tourism leaders for an evening dedicated to the Islands of Tahiti.

Hidden Tahiti explores the lesser-known islands, UNESCO wonders and unique cultural traditions beyond the iconic locales of French Polynesia. The film offers an authentic perspective on a destination that has long captured the imagination of travelers, artists and authors. Hidden Tahiti is scheduled to premiere on PBS, Amazon Prime and Apple TV+ this fall.

More than 145 attendees gathered for a reception before the screening, enjoying Tahitian inspired dishes and a traditional Polynesian dance performance by Nonosina Dance Company. The evening continued with a screening of the 57-minute film, part of Peter Greenberg Worldwide Productions’ Hidden series. Among those in attendance was Samantha Bonet-Tirao, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Culture of French Polynesia.

Minister Bonet-Tirao highlighted the importance of sharing the culture, traditions and people that define the islands with audiences around the world: “French Polynesia is a place defined not only by the extraordinary beauty of our islands, but by our people, our culture and the traditions that connect us. Hidden Tahiti offers an opportunity to share that deeper story with audiences beyond our shores, and it is meaningful to see so many partners and friends come together in Los Angeles to celebrate what makes our islands so special.” Peter Greenberg has been traveling to Tahiti since 1981. "You can't have a cavalier attitude about French Polynesia. It's not like ticking off a bucket list box. It is not just a beautiful destination, but a cultural experience that never ceases to amaze and enlighten. And every time I return, every island becomes a rich immersion into a culture that is not only endearing, but enduring."For Paul Gauguin Cruises, the premiere was an opportunity to celebrate a destination it has called home for almost three decades. The award-winning m/s Paul Gauguin was designed specifically for French Polynesia, with a size and shallow draft that allow her to navigate the region’s lagoons and reach islands and destinations beyond the better-known ports of call. Unique to Paul Gauguin Cruises are Les Gauguines, a troupe of Tahitian ambassadors who live aboard to share their culture with guests through storytelling, song and dance. “For nearly 30 years, we’ve had the privilege of introducing guests to the islands of French Polynesia, and what stays with them long after they return home is more than the scenery. It’s the mana, the sense of spirit and connection to place that is woven into everyday life, and the warmth of the people who make every visit so meaningful,” said Samuel Chamberlain, CEO, Americas, Paul Gauguin Cruises. “Hidden Tahiti captures that beautifully, shining a light on experiences and perspectives that many visitors may have never seen. We’re proud to be part of a film that invites audiences to look beyond the familiar and discover the places, stories and connections that make French Polynesia so special."
