Turn your transfer into a respite and enjoy a relaxing day in a beautiful resort setting with Paul Gauguin Cruises’ Day Room Program.

Papeete

You will be greeted at the airport by our local English-speaking representative upon disembarking your Paul Gauguin Cruises’ selected flight.

Transfer to the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa and check-in. Enjoy a few hours of relaxation before check-out at 11 am.

Lunch is included at the hotel.

After lunch, you will head towards the west coast of Tahiti to visit a marae and the Museum of Tahiti and Her Islands. You will then be transferred to Le Paul Gauguin to embark.

The resort:

Located on a vibrant blue lagoon, the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa is the ideal base to combine relaxation and island discovery. You will have access to all hotel amenities including two freshwater swimming pools, a beach, and an overwater restaurant. A spa and dive center are also available at additional cost.

Day 1 – Papeete/Moorea

You will be greeted at the Faa’a International Airport by our local English-speaking representative upon disembarking your flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).

You will be transferred to the pier and embark on a ferry to Moorea.

Upon arriving Moorea, you will be met by a representative from the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort 5* and will transfer to the resort. After early check-in, day is at leisure.

Glass-bottom boat

Get acquainted with the coral gardens and tropical fish of Rangiroa during this scenic glass-bottom boat tour. Depart the pier aboard a glass-bottom boat, then slowly float over the huge coral heads that cluster in shallow areas inside the Tiputa Channel.

Along the way, you will see a colourful world full of parrot fish, butterfly fish, and surgeon fish through the large windows. You may also encounter black-tipped sharks, and catch a glimpse of the majestic Napoleon fish. Scenic drive to Hanavave

Fatu Hiva, the most remote island of the inhabited Marquesan islands offers green and lush vegetation with sheer, rocky landscapes. There are only two villages on the island connected by one road (17 km). The scenic 4x4 ride from Omoa to Hanavave offers numerous photo opportunities over dramatic landscapes, coastline and deep gorges and valleys.

On arrival in Hanavave you will have some free time to stretch your legs and explore the village and take more photos of one of the most picturesque locations in the Marquesas, the iconic Bay of Virgins. The bay was named by Catholic missionaries, who said that the phallic shaped stone outcrops were formed as veiled virgins.

Depart the pier for the ride to the Taipivai Valley, one of the richest archaeological sites in the Marquesas Islands. The Taipivai Valley is a location made famous by the American writer and former sailor, Herman Melville (1819-1891), who deserted his ship and hid in this valley. Captured by indigenous natives, he lived in the Taipivai Valley for three weeks, a period during which he observed their way of life. This experience was the inspiration for his first novel. En route to the Taipivai Valley, you will ride through the island’s interior along a steep trail lined with lush flora and vegetation, then traverse exquisite mountain terrain.

Along the way, you will enjoy many opportunities to take magnificent photographs, as you stop several times to take in spectacular vistas of the coastline, bays, and valleys. At one particular stop, you will see your ship anchored in the Bay of Taihoae. Next, you will drive through Taipivai’s small agricultural villages, then proceed to a long stretch of beach at the end of the village. Depart the pier for the boat transfer to the base. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and riding instructions from your guide, then embark your two-seat catajet for a 1.5-hour ride in an idyllic lagoon on Moorea. Led by your guide at an easy speed, you will take in panoramic views of the East Coast and Cook and Opunohu Bays, or the West Coast (weather permitting).

Next, a stop will be made for snorkeling in the shallow waters. After putting on your mask, fins and snorkel, you will explore the beauty of the tropical fish and coral formations. Your adventure will continue with a stop on a sand bar, where you will have an opportunity to play with stingrays.

Depart the pier in an off-road vehicle for a journey inside the volcanic crater from which Moorea was created. En route, you will discover the heart of a huge pineapple plantation inside the island's deepest valley. Moorea, Polynesian's Green Garden, is renowned for its Agricultural School, which receives students from all the outer islands. A stop will be made here to sample some homemade jam. Your guide will then drive you across a large plantation filled with vanilla, bananas, grapefruits, and oranges, and will acquaint you with the island's diverse flora and fauna. Next, you will continue to an open-air temple, or marae.

After a stop to learn about the Polynesian culture, you will ascend to the top of Belvedere lookout for spectacular vistas over Cook's and Opunohu Bays. Depart the pier for the drive to the Intercontinental Moorea Resort & Spa. Upon arrival, you will meet your instructor, then be outfitted with your wet suit and water shoes before embarking on a 10-minute boat ride inside the majestic lagoon of Moorea. The crew will anchor the boat off the coast of Motu Fareone or inside the lagoon in Papetoai (depending on sea and weather conditions). Your certified diving instructor will explain your safety and diving instructions, help you put on your helmet, and assist you with descending the ladder into the crystal-clear water.

You will then commence your 30-minute underwater adventure at a depth of 12 feet. Catamaran sail in Moorea

Depart the pier aboard the beautiful, 43-foot catamaran, and sail to Moorea's northern coast, then on to a pair of French Polynesian's most beautiful bays: Cook's and Opunohu. En route, you can sit back and relax, or savor a fruit juice under the canopy astern. Upon reaching Opunohu Bay, the captain will drop anchor in the clear blue waters of the lagoon. After receiving your safety and snorkeling instructions, you will have the chance to discover the underwater tiki place and the marine life residing there, including coral formations and reef fish.

Enjoy breakfast aboard Le Paul Gauguin before checking out and disembarking.

Our local representative will greet you at the pier and you will depart by coach on an island exploration.

After passing through downtown Papeete, you will arrive at the district of Arue to visit James Norman Hall Home?. This memorial museum is the exact replica of the original elegant green colonial home of this famous writer. Most known for the Mutiny on the Bounty? trilogy and other known novels that were transformed into Hollywood movies.

You will then continue to Venus Point on Matavai Bay. Here you will see a Victorian-era lighthouse and monument commemorating the passage of Captain James Cook who came to observe the transit of Venus in 1769 as part of his work for the Royal Society.

Next, a stop will be allowed at Tahara'a One Tree Hill?. The lookout provides impressive panoramic views across the Sea of Moons? with Tahiti's sister island, Moorea.

The tour will end at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa 4*, where you will have lunch.

After lunch, check in to your Day Room. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon/evening relaxing in your room or taking advantage of two freshwater swimming pools and a beach.
