PRE CRUISE TAHITIAN RELAXATION

Enhance your cruise and make the most of your trip to the islands with a relaxing one-night pre-cruise stay at a beautiful Tahitian resort.

Day 1 – Papeete

Meet at Faa’a International Airport in the Arrival hall. You will be greeted by our local representative off the flight selected by PAUL GAUGUIN Cruises.

Transfer to the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa 4* and check in upon arrival. Enjoy dinner on your own at the resort or elsewhere.

Day 2 – Papeete

Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the resort and enjoy a leisurely morning relaxing in your room or taking advantage of two freshwater swimming pools and a beach. Check-out is at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at the resort.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the pier to board Le Paul Gauguin.

ATV guided tour*

Depart from the pier of Rotoava Village for a guided tour of the northern part of the island by ATV.

Pass by the airport on the way to the North Pass and visit the small ancestral temple, Teinoka. Along the way, you will also visit the old sea cucumber oven.

  • For insurance purposes, each driving participant must present credit card details and a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years of age. The minimum age to ride as a passenger on this tour is 6 years old. During the tour, one bottle of water per person is offered. After the tour, guests will be offered a beverage of beer or juice per person. *This tour is priced per ATV which can accommodate two average-sized adults.

Waverunner & snorkelling*

Depart from Rotoava village for a short drive to the waverunner Base. Commence your tour with a safety briefing, then continue your guided tour with a ride along the scenic coast, you will start your adventure and discover the Fakarava lagoon with your waverunner.

During your tour, you will have the opportunity to snorkel and one of the stops will be a visit to the black pearl shell lines.

At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to Rotoava to embark your ship.

  • One bottle of water per person is offered. Bring your snorkel gear from the ship. Operation of this tour is dependent upon weather and water conditions. *This tour is priced per waverunner which can accommodate two average-sized adults (weight limit 500 lbs). When prerequesting this tour, please select only one ticket.

E-Bike tour of Rotoava & the North shore

View the village of Rotoava on a beautiful scenic guided tour by e-bike. Explore the surrounding area which includes viewing the Topaka lighthouse, airport, and Catholic Church. Cycle inside the verdant coconut grove, along the ocean side of the island; the overall distance is approximately 15 km.

  • The level is easy to moderate and pedalling is required! E-bike is a bike with electric assistance. The tour includes one bottle of water and complimentary use of a helmet.

Fakarava pinnacle snorkel

Experience the abundant marine life for which Fakarava is famous during this memorable snorkelling adventure.

Board your Zodiac® (or similar boat) for a 30-minute ride (each way) to the north pass in the lagoon. Your guide will give you safety instructions and information about the site before you enter the water from the boat. You will then start your snorkelling experience around the coral head, where you will discover a wide variety of species. Fish common to the area include sharks and tropical fish, including groupers, parrot fish, triggerfish, and others.

Following your tour, you will be transferred back to the ship.

  • This deepwater activity is recommended only for experienced, strong swimmers in good physical condition who are comfortable wearing snorkelling equipment. Life vests will be available on the boat if needed. Although marine life is widely present in this region, sightings cannot be guaranteed, and tickets are nonrefundable should sightings not occur. For your own safety and to help us preserve the environment, do not touch or step on the coral reef while snorkelling.

Half day to Teahatea beach

Depart the ship by small local boats across the beautiful UNESCO biosphere reserve of Fakarava to the white sand beach of Teahatea just after the Garuae Pass.

The boat is (8 m) 50 long, special for excursions. It is equipped with all safety equipment and with a covered top and sides. The boat ride takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the weather conditions. You will have 2-2 ½ hours of free time to relax on the beach, enjoy a swim in the crystal clear lagoon or go snorkelling. Iced coconuts will be offered to you directly on the white sand beach and refreshments (fresh fruit juices, ice tea, and water) will be served.

You can relax and enjoy the tranquillity of this heavenly site.

  • The boat ride maybe bumpy and rough depending on the sea conditions. No facilities are available on the beaches: no rest room, nor beach chairs or umbrellas. Bring your snorkelling gear, provided by the ship, along with a towel and sun protection: sunscreen, sunhat and sunglasses. The excursion is weather dependant, and the beach may be substituted with a different one.

Discover the southern pass of Fakarava

From the north of the island of Fakarava, you'll set off by boat to discover the southern pass of Fakarava and the village of Tetamanu. On your first stopover, you will have the opportunity to go snorkeling at the village of Tetamanu. During this snorkeling in one of the most beautiful coral reefs in Polynesia, you will be amazed by the impressive underwater life, sharks and a multitude of tropical fish.

Your second stop is a 10-minute boat ride from Tetamanu, the famous pink sandbanks of the southern atoll of Fakarava, where during this 20-30 minute stop you will be able to enjoy a swim in the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon. Re-board the boat for a 30-minute trip to Hirifa, where a Paumotu barbecue (local Polynesian style) will be served after an hour's preparation, giving you time to enjoy and relax on the beach. The buffet includes fresh fish (raw and cooked), rice and coconut bread, as well as a selection of drinks. After lunch, you can take part in a cultural weaving demonstration (hats and crowns). Your return to Rotoava will take place after the cultural demonstration.

  • The snorkeling part involves swimming in deep water in areas subject to strong currents. The long boat journey to and from the South Pass can be bumpy, depending on weather and sea conditions (around 1h to 1 and a half hour one way). This trip is not recommended for guests with mobility issues, with back or neck problems, or those prone to seasickness. Please bring your snorkeling equipment, beach towel, snorkeling shoes and some cash for souvenirs. The Tuamotus are very remote islands. Although the guides used are the best available, their command of English can be very poor. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

Glass-bottom boat

Get acquainted with the coral gardens and tropical fish of Rangiroa during this scenic glass-bottom boat tour. Depart the pier aboard a glass-bottom boat, then slowly float over the huge coral heads that cluster in shallow areas inside the Tiputa Channel.

Along the way, you will see a colourful world full of parrot fish, butterfly fish, and surgeon fish through the large windows. You may also encounter black-tipped sharks, and catch a glimpse of the majestic Napoleon fish. During the tour, your Polynesian boat crew will attract the fish directly under the glass panels to make it easy for you to observe and photography them.

A cover will provide protection from the sun and eliminate glare, enabling you to take home great photographs.

Following your tour, you will be transferred back to the pier.

  • This is not a snorkelling tour. This tour takes place at Motu Nui Nui. Marine life is widely present in this region; however, sightings cannot be guaranteed and tickets are nonrefundable should a sighting not occur. The Tuamotu's are very remote islands. Although the guides used are the best available, they are not certified and their command of English may be very poor. Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.

Snorkelling Rangiroa's 'aquarium'

Rangiroa’s spectacular and diverse marine life is yours to discover during this scenic and memorable ride in the Tuamotu Islands.

Depart the pier via local boat for the ride to Motu Nui Nui, a natural, open-water aquarium renowned for its marine life. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety instructions, then enter the water to explore your surroundings.

Along the way, you will observe an abundance of colourful fish and coral and marine life. Your guide will offer assistance in the water and throughout the tour.

During the tour, you will also have an opportunity to hand-feed the fish. Following your snorkelling session, you will be transferred back to the pier.

  • This tour is recommended for guests who are in good physical condition and used to snorkelling in deep water and strong currents. The Tuamotus are very remote islands. Your tour will depart the pier by off road vehicle and cross the bridge to Huahine Nui (big Huahine). Head around the majestic bay where the m/s Paul Gauguin is anchored, then ascend the island's steepest road for a spectacular panoramic view over Maroe Bay and take a photo with the ship in the background. After, a stop will be made to feed the sacred giant blue-eyed eels that live in the stream running through the village of Faie.

Boarding "Le Truck", French Polynesia's famous local style bus, you will depart from Maroe Village on the small island of Huahine Iti, crossing the bridge to Huahine Nui, or 'big island'. Here you will drive past lush green valleys and turquoise lagoon through the capital town of Fare, where Captain James Cook sojourned on his visits to the island.

Your first stop is Maeva village, considered to be one of French Polynesia's most important archaeological areas and home to the largest pre-historic habitation site in Polynesia. During your walk through the village, you will explore the archaeological sites along the lake shore and the Fare Pote'e Museum. You will learn about Polynesian origins and migrations, traditional society, religion, botany, European explorers and get a first-hand look at various traditional tools, handicrafts and artifacts.

You will continue on to Mata'ire'a hill, just above the Village of Maeva and home to more than 200 stone structures, including marae, agricultural terraces, house foundations, fortification walls and burial platforms.

Your next stop, via "Le Truck", is a local family run vanilla plantation where you will have the opportunity to purchase various vanilla products. Continuing on, you will stop to see and learn about the 500 year old fish traps that thanks to restoration work are used again today by the people of Maeva Village.

Depart the pier aboard a Le truck. First, you will drive through the district of Fa'anui. Along the way, you will pass by small villages and fields that offer a glimpse into the everyday life of the people of Bora Bora. A brief stop will be made at Fa'anui Bay for photographs of Mounts Otemanu and Pahia.

Your drive will continue on to the ancient ceremonial site of Fa'anui Marae, followed by a look at the bunkers constructed by American GIs during WWII. After embarking your glass-bottom boat at the pier, you will depart for a brief cruise. Your guide will then tie the boat to a mooring in about 25 feet of water and try to attract black-tipped sharks. You will observe the dance of these ocean denizens and, if you are lucky, spot some lemon sharks known to frequent the area. Next, you will proceed to a shallower, clear lagoon for a rare opportunity to view graceful stingrays and even swim alongside them.

  • Underwater viewing takes place through large glass windows. The roof provides protection from the sun and eliminates glare, enhancing photo and video quality. Swimming is not permitted during the first stop with sharks but is highly recommended with the stingrays. Continue on to a small motu for an opportunity to snorkel in its crystal-clear water. This motu is located close to a pass where experienced snorkeler can observe the drop-off of the reef. Coral garden drift snorkeling

Depart the ship by covered motorized boat for a 15-minute ride along the west coast of Taha'a.

Upon arrival, you will disembark the boat for a guided walk across an uninhabited islet, or motu, located just off the coast. After reaching the other side of the motu, you will commence your snorkeling session. Your guide will lead you as the current carries you through the shallow lagoon on the way back to the boat. The drift can be moderate to strenuous depending on the strength of the current. The drift is done in a single line with one snorkeling guide leading the 12 snorkeller spaced 10 feet apart and one snorkelling guide closing up on the group. This area abounds with a spectacular variety of tropical fish and amazing coral.

Upon returning to the boat, refreshments and additional snorkelling time will be made available before you are transferred back to Motu Mahana.

Depart the pier in an off-road vehicle for a journey inside the volcanic crater from which Moorea was created. En route, you will discover the heart of a huge pineapple plantation inside the island's deepest valley. Moorea, Polynesian's Green Garden, is renowned for its Agricultural School, which receives students from all the outer islands. A stop will be made here to sample some homemade jam. Your guide will then drive you across a large plantation filled with vanilla, bananas, grapefruits, and oranges, and will acquaint you with the island's diverse flora and fauna. Next, you will continue to an open-air temple, or marae.

Depart the pier in Cook's Bay for the brief transfer via minivan to the Hilton Moorea Lagoon & Spa, where the ATVs are based. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and riding instructions. Then, begin your ATV ride. Your guide will lead you along the road to Belvedere lookout for magnificent views and photo opportunities over Cook's Bay, Opunohu Bay, and Mt. Rotui.

Depart the pier aboard a comfortable and modern boat featuring covered areas designed to protect you from the direct rays of the sun. As you cruise along these majestic bays, your captain will inform you about the legends, geography, and flora and fauna of Moorea.

Next, you will continue on to a gorgeous sandy islet surrounded by transparent turquoise waters that are shallow enough to walk comfortably in the sea. Upon arrival, you will have a rare opportunity to feed the awaiting rays; they will gracefully glide around you in exchange for a piece of fish. Your tour will conclude with a stop at another uninhabited islet nearby. Here, you will be served refreshments and have an opportunity to explore the beach and swim. You will also be invited to go snorkeling in water 6-10 feet (2-3 meters) deep. Snorkeling is performed in the shallow waters off the boat, providing an excellent opportunity for both experienced snorkeler and beginners. The boat's ladders extend deep into the water, making it easy to embark and disembark the craft.

Aquablue – Underwater walk

Explore Moorea's splendid marine life in a unique new way during this underwater walking and snorkeling adventure.

Depart the pier for the drive to the Intercontinental Moorea Resort & Spa. Upon arrival, you will meet your instructor, then be outfitted with your wet suit and water shoes before embarking on a 10-minute boat ride inside the majestic lagoon of Moorea. The crew will anchor the boat off the coast of Motu Fareone or inside the lagoon in Papetoai (depending on sea and weather conditions). Your certified diving instructor will explain your safety and diving instructions, help you put on your helmet, and assist you with descending the ladder into the crystal-clear water.

You will then commence your 30-minute underwater adventure at a depth of 12 feet. Along the way, you will see an abundance of fish that include triggerfish, butterfly fish, groupers, and parrotfish, swimming amid beautiful coral heads. Stingrays are also plentiful at this dive spot. While your guide feeds them, you will be able to take a closer look at these unusual ocean denizens.

Following your tour, you will be returned to the pier.

  • This does not require any prior scuba or snorkeling experience beyond being comfortable on and in the water. Guests will spend approximately 30 minutes underwater. The helmet, while heavy, is placed on your head as you enter the water and taken off as you exit. You will remain connected to the boat's air supply via an air hose. This tour is not recommended for guests with back and/or neck problems, or guests with asthma. Due to tour operator's insurance requirements, guests must sign a waiver before enjoying this tour. Catamaran sail in Moorea

Explore Moorea's beauty from above and below the water during this relaxing sailing and snorkeling excursion aboard a catamaran.

Depart the pier aboard the beautiful, 43-foot catamaran, and sail to Moorea's northern coast, then on to a pair of French Polynesian's most beautiful bays: Cook's and Opunohu. En route, you can sit back and relax, or savor a fruit juice under the canopy astern. Upon reaching Opunohu Bay, the captain will drop anchor in the clear blue waters of the lagoon. After receiving your safety and snorkeling instructions, you will have the chance to discover the underwater tiki place and the marine life residing there, including coral formations and reef fish.

Afterwards, you will set sail toward Cook's Bay before returning to your ship. The well-equipped catamaran offers facilities that include a rest room and shower, and a shaded area with comfortable seats.

  • Entry into and out of the water is by a vertical ladder, aft of the catamaran. Sailing time and itinerary is subject to wind and current conditions.
